What is a Comet? Explain its various parts with a diagram.
Parts of a Comet:
- Nucleus: The central part of a comet, consisting of frozen solid materials such as ice and dust.
- Coma: When the comet gets closer to the Sun, the Sun's heat causes the frozen material around the nucleus to vaporize, forming a cloud-like structure of gas and vapor. This is called the coma.
- Dust Tail: A white tail formed by dust particles released from the comet. This tail appears thick and reflects sunlight.
- Ion Tail: A fine, glowing blue tail made of ionized gases. It points directly away from the Sun due to the influence of the solar wind.
